I would not recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Langkawi, there are WAY BETTER hotels for a similar price point.
The RIYAZ Lavanya Langkawi does not deserve to call themselves a 5 star hotel, their rooms are not the level of luxury expected from a 5 star hotel and are 4 star at best.
Room cleanliness (as seen from the pictures - we had booked a junior suite and was greeted by a stained bench and carpet) and service is also sorely lacking. When we called reception to ask whether we could check out early, she replied curtly and rudely that our booking was made through Trip.com, so we have to check with the travel agent instead - not showing an ounce of concern or curiosity why we were making such an enquiry. I don't believe this is 5 star service at all.
When we went to reception to process our check out, we were greeted by another receptionist who finally asked us why we were checking out 2 nights early. She sounded actually apologetic but did not offer us any service recovery or room upgrades, so we left it at that and proceeded to drive out of the hotel.
Only when we were turning out of the carpark, we received a WhatsApp call from the same receptionist to meet with the Duty Manager. At this point, we were already disappointed and was making our way to another hotel, but she pleaded with us saying that our early check out would be blamed on her as she was the receptionist on duty. We felt sorry for her as she wasn't to blame (it was the cleaning team's fault and the other receptionist), so we decided to meet with the Duty Manager as a favour.
The Duty Manager listened to our grievances and offered us a room upgrade - by this point, we were already disappointed by the subpar service and it felt like a last ditch effort to have us stay, and for what exactly? I don't think anything could have salvaged our stay at this point - it was not just the room, it was also the lack of service training of staff. We had also already made another booking which was non-cancellable as we weren't offered any service recovery before this.
To make matters worse, when we got back and tried to request for a refund through Trip.com, the hotel refused and was adamant that they did not receive any concern from us, which is untrue as per my recount above.
